Crew Girl Season 2: Will Netflix Renew? Everything We Know So Far

In Netflix’s Crew Girl, we follow Teagan Tao (Miku Martineau), an outspoken teen girl, who takes on a near-impossible task: coxswaining a boat of eight college boys. The 8-episode debut season landed on Netflix on September 10. Will the series return for another installment? Here’s everything we know.

With its September 2026 release, YA romance drama Crew Girl enters a growing roster of genre shows on Netflix, joining the likes of Finding Her Edge and Geek Girl. And there’s one glue linking all of these series together: Jeff Norton. He serves as the originating executive producer on both Crew Girl and Geek Girl, and handles show-running duties on Finding Her Edge, which is currently in production on its second season. So far, they’ve each had excellent success, with both Geek Girl and Finding Her Edge scoring renewals after high viewership and solid ratings.

Crew Girl swaps out ice-skates for the rowing oars. The series picks up with teenage rowing prodigy Teagan Tao (Martineau), whose whole life is upended by a family scandal involving her father. Herself and her single mother are forced  to relocate to a completely new town, where she attends a prep school where there’s no female rowing team. She has to wiggle herself into the boys’ crew as their coxswain in order to keep up her training. There, she forms complicated relationships with the high-strung crew, including a love triangle involving the arrogant team captain, Josh Regis (Samuel Braun), and the sweet local boy, Cam Dillinger (Kyle Clark), who is the underrated MVP of the team.

In our 3-star review, we praised the show for delivering some genuinely heartfelt moments with exciting twists and turns, but criticized its formulaic approach and cliché-ridden core narrative. Across wider platforms, the series currently holds 75% on Rotten Tomatoes.

How does Crew Girl Season 1 perfectly set up Season 2?

Warning: The following section contains spoilers. Proceed with caution!

The longer Crew Girl goes on, Teagan’s relationships with Josh and Cam get more complicated and messy. When Teagan first meets Cam by way of crashing her bike into his truck, sparks fly between them, but he struggles to come to terms with having a long-term relationship, distracted by working to keep his family’s business afloat. They ultimately drift during the Fall Formal when financial aid was mentioned.

Meanwhile, Teagan’s relationship with Josh is a lot more messy. It’s an enemies-to-lovers storyline. On the surface, Josh is arrogant and mean, but his insecurities surface fast to reveal a deeply vulnerable young man behind the tough exterior. After spending so long with Josh, Teagan soon comes to find comfort and understanding in him. There is a point when they can’t keep their hands off each other, but by the end of the season, the energy becomes more muted.

It turns out that Josh was powering through with rowing despite suffering from a heart condition — hypertrophic cardiomyopathy — that should sideline him indefinitely. In the finale, Josh asks Teagan for a second chance at a relationship after his heart surgery. But mere moments later, Teagan reunites with Cam, the new man in stroke seat, and they kiss. Is that kiss a sign of where things stand?

“I think she’s still going to be figuring it out,” star Miku Martineau told Netflix of Teagan’s ending. “Who knows what could happen in Season 2? A love square — is that even possible?”

For Josh’s future, actor Sam Braun believes the character deserves a fresh beginning. “We’ll have to see post–heart surgery,” he said. “It was physically but also emotionally necessary, because now Josh gets a fresh start.” He adds that he’d like to see Josh take on new jobs. “It’d be fun if he coached the girls’ team or something like that. I feel like there’d be a lot of drama.”

While Teagan’s future relationship remains somewhat ambiguous, the show ends with a cliffhanger that makes it plainly obvious what’s in the pipeline. Before the final credits roll, Easton Prep’s ‘queen bee’ Britney (Sage Linder) enters the scene with a team of girls — she’s putting together the school’s first-ever girls’ rowing team. Will she jump ship from coxswaining the boys’ rowing team to join the girls’ crew? “We’re going to have to wait to find out,” Martineau teases. “She has such an attachment to the boys’ team, but she’s also in the pursuit of her own rowing career, and singles are her passion. It’s going to be hard to decide.”

The Crew Girl team is keen on more seasons — here’s what they’re saying.

As always, Netflix renewals are not guaranteed, but the Crew Girl team is confident that the series has enough scope to not only go on for another season, but endure for a lot longer.

“Yes, I think it has the potential to go on as long as it wants to, because rowing goes on for a long time,” showrunner Vivian Lin told us, adding that there’s room for the series to expand into spinoffs exploring rowing cultures in different regions of the world. “And also there’s spinoff [potential]. We did the American version and there are other rowing cultures too. So I think there are legs to this.”

“No guarantees though,” she added.

In addition, we also caught up with executive producer Jeff Norton, who had similar thoughts. “If Crew Girl resonates with the audience in a way that I hope it will, I think we’ll be able to go again,” he said, adding that the trio of coming-of-age YA dramas he’s working on all have enough scope to remain on our screens for longer. “I would love to do further seasons of all of these shows. And I’ve been very lucky to be able to do a second season of Geek Girl. Obviously, with Finding Her Edge, we’ve just started production.”

Crew Girl Season 1 is now streaming on Netflix.
