Rose Byrne is coming off the biggest awards run of her career, and her next stop is a small town with a very dark history. Peacock has debuted the teaser trailer and first-look images for The Good Daughter, a six-episode limited series based on Karin Slaughter’s 2017 bestseller. Byrne and Meghann Fahy star as Samantha and Charlotte Quinn, sisters who are still putting their lives back together 20 years after a single night of violence tore their family apart.

The Plot
The logline from Peacock reads: Sisters Charlotte (Meghann Fahy) and Samantha (Rose Byrne) Quinn have spent the last 20 years trying to piece together the lives that were fractured by a single night of violence. When another attack splinters the small town of Pikeville, Charlotte — now a lawyer like her father — is the first witness on the scene. As the case unfolds and twists through painful memories and buried secrets, what emerges is not just a story of survival, but of enduring ties between a father and his daughters, and the complex bond between sisters.
The Cast
Byrne plays Samantha Quinn and Fahy plays Charlotte Quinn. Brendan Gleeson (The Banshees of Inisherin), Olivia Williams (The Crown), Harper Steele (Will & Harper), Michael Dorman (For All Mankind), Audrey Grace Marshall, and Drew Cheek round out the series regulars.
In press release, Slaughter said the sisters’ relationship is the heart of the series. “The Good Daughter is a story of love, family, and the unbreakable bond between two resilient, funny, difficult sisters,” she said. “It’s thrilling to watch Charlie and Sam brought to life by two extraordinarily talented women. Rose and Meghann perfectly captured the sister relationship — all the history, heartache and joy — wrapped inside this puzzle of a mystery.”
Behind the scenes
Along with writing every episode, Slaughter, whose books also inspired ABC’s Will Trent, executive produces alongside Bruna Papandrea, Steve Hutensky, and Casey Haver of Made Up Stories (The Undoing, Wolf Like Me). Byrne is also an executive producer. Steph Green, who directed episodes of Watchmen and The Americans and earned an Oscar nomination for her short film “New Boy,” directs all six episodes and executive produces.
The series took a winding road to the screen. Peacock gave The Good Daughter a straight-to-series order in March 2024 with Jessica Biel attached to star as Charlotte and executive produce. Biel exited that September, and Fahy and Byrne’s casting as Charlotte and Samantha was announced in December 2024.
Could The Good Daughter be an Emmy contender?
With a Nov. 12 premiere, The Good Daughter lands squarely in the 2027 Emmy eligibility window, and it arrives with plenty of awards pedigree in front of the camera. Byrne won her first Golden Globe this year for If I Had Legs I’d Kick You, which also earned her first Oscar nomination (she lost to Jessie Buckley for Hamnet). She followed that with her first Tony nomination for the Broadway revival of Fallen Angels. On the TV side, she’s a two-time Emmy nominee for Damages.
Fahy is a two-time Emmy nominee herself, nominated for Best Drama Supporting Actress for The White Lotus Season 2 and Best Movie/Limited Actress for Netflix’s Sirens in 2025. Depending on how Peacock places them, Byrne and Fahy could end up competing in Best Limited Actress together. Gleeson won an Emmy for playing Winston Churchill in Into the Storm and is an Oscar nominee for The Banshees of Inisherin. Behind the camera, Papandrea was an executive producer on Emmy-winning limited series Big Little Lies.
Peacock also has a recent blueprint for this kind of show. All Her Fault, another November limited series thriller based on a bestselling novel, broke through with seven Emmy nominations this year, including Best Limited Series, Best Movie/Limited Actress for Sarah Snook, and Best Limited Supporting Actress for Dakota Fanning. It became the first Peacock scripted series nominated in one of the Emmys’ top program categories.
