Nicolas Cage‘s home in Malibu is facing some major issues right now after a sinkhole opened up right outside the garage, with the driveway collapsing into the ground.
The Oscar-winning actor purchased the home in 2024 for $10.5 million and it’s located right on the water with incredible views of the ocean.
The sinkhole opened up on Tuesday morning (September 8) following a day of rain in Los Angeles.
Why is there a sinkhole outside Nicolas Cage’s home?
KTLA is reporting that “coastal erosion” appears to be the cause of the sinkhole, which appears to be about 30 feet by 30 feet.
“Substantial damage done to this home, or at least the driveway to this home here in Malibu,” KTLA’s Rich Prickett said.
Firefighters were called to the scene at about 5:45am because of a suspected gas main break.
Was Nicolas Cage home at the time?
It does not appear Nicolas was there. No injuries have been reported and the home appears to have been unoccupied.
“It doesn’t appear that anybody was home. As a matter of fact, the house looks like it is under some sort of renovation,” KTLA’s Rich Prickett added.
The home is located in a gated community and access is now being restricted amid the damage. Occupants of five other homes are prohibited from entering their residences because of the incident.
The sinkhole comes just days after bad news for one of Nicolas‘ acclaimed projects.
