What begins as an idyllic romance quickly turns sinister in the first trailer for M. Night Shyamalan‘s upcoming mystery Remain. The Warner Bros. drama stars Jake Gyllenhaal and Phoebe Dynevor as a duo appearing to fall in love in a montage of romantic game nightss and longing stares. “You’re not like anyone I’ve ever met,” says Gyllenhaal’s character. Turns out he’s not wrong, and things aren’t what they seem. The tone suddenly shifts, and Gyllenhaal finds himself entangled in a dangerous mystery.
Here’s everything to know about the Oscar-nominated director’s latest project.
THE PLOT
According to the studio, the story centers on reclusive architect Tate Gordon (Gyllenhaal), who moves to a small coastal town to finish his latest project. There, he meets an alluring young woman (Dynevor) who coaxes him out of his shell and draws him into a deadly mystery hanging over the community.
THE CAST
Gyllenhaal stars alongside Dynevor, Ashley Walters, Julie Hagerty, and Jay O. Sanders.

THE CREATIVES
Remain is based on a story conceived by Shyamalan and best-selling author Nicholas Sparks. Shyamalan directs from his own screenplay and also serves as a producer alongside Ashwin Rajan, Marc Bienstock, and Theresa Park. Sparks serves as executive producer.
Joining Shyamalan behind the scenes are director of photography Adolpho Veloso, production designer Sam Lisenco, editor Noëmi Preiswerk, costume designer Caroline Duncan, casting director Douglas Aibel, music supervisor Gabe Hilfer, and composer James Newton Howard.
AWARDS CHANCES
Slim. Despite an award-winning below-the-line team, this film seems like a straight box-office play. It’s been 26 years since Shyamalan contended for Oscars with The Sixth Sense, and none of the 11 films previously adapted from Sparks novels has been nominated.
RELEASE DAY
Warner Bros. Pictures will release the film in North American theaters on Feb. 5, 2027 and internationally beginning Feb. 3.
