After winning two Grammy Awards last year for Best Pop Solo Performance (“Espresso”) and Best Pop Vocal Album (“Short n’ Sweet”), Sabrina Carpenter has now added an Emmy Award to her collection for Best Variety Special (Pre-Recorded) for The Muppet Show.
She was an executive producer and performer on the Disney+ project that revived Jim Henson’s beloved Muppets for another round of variety-show sketches, songs, and celebrity guests. Directed by Alex Timbers, it garnered millions of views and glowing reviews.
The Muppet Show received six Emmy nominations and won four at Saturday’s Creative Arts: Best Variety Special (Pre-Recorded), Best Writing for a Variety Special, Best Picture Editing for Variety Programming, and Best Production Design for a Variety Special. The special has one more nomination at Sunday’s Creative Arts: Best Character Voice-Over Performance for Matt Vogel as Kermit the Frog.
Carpenter is now halfway to EGOT, just needing the Oscar and the Tony to complete the entertainment grand slam.
Carpenter did not appear at the Creative Arts Emmys to accept her trophy.
Her fellow executive producers on The Muppet Show were Seth Rogen (who also appears in the special), David Lightbody, Leigh Slaughter, Michael Steinbach, Evan Goldberg, James Weaver, Alex McAtee, Matt Vogel, Eric Jacobson, Albertina Rizzo, Alex Timbers, Ryan Janata, and Dani Iglesias.
“I think in the current climate of entertainment, it felt right to do the special now,” Vogel told Gold Derby. “We assembled a great group to make the show. It’s very important for us to try to get the right tone and project to make it all feel great. And that’s what we did with this. We’re really proud of it.”
