Shane Black is coming to Netflix. The screenwriter behind Lethal Weapon and director of The Nice Guys is working on a new spy series, Bannerman, which is bringing AMC Global Media and Netflix together for their first co-production. Black co-wrote the pilot, which he’ll direct in addition to episode two.
Bannerman is an adaptation of a spy series by author John R. Maxim. Showrunner Craig Silverstein, known for Nikita and Turn: Washington’s Spies, co-wrote the pilot with Black. The story centers around a group of ex-spies, including the titular Paul Bannerman, now living the good life in a quiet Connecticut town.

Maxim wrote five books in the series. The project marks Black’s follow-up to Parker, which was a hit adaptation of a long-running crime series for Amazon Prime. He’s a seasoned pro at crafting colorful characters in juicy plots full of intrigue. Black’s stories, at their best, play as page-turners on the big screen. The AMC-Netflix project marks his first produced writing-and-directing gig for television, not to mention his first Netflix project.

AMC’s longtime collaborators, The Walking Dead’s Greg Nicotero and Brian Witten, are producing the series. The spy drama was first announced in 2023, a year before AMC and Netflix signed a streaming licensing deal. Bannerman was originally slated for AMC and AMC+, but Netflix’s involvement secured the green light for the promising series.
“Bannerman is a smart, high-octane thrill ride of a series, powered by an extraordinary creative team,” said Dan McDermott, chief content officer of AMC Global Media and president of AMC Studios. “This is the perfect premium drama to kick off our first co-production with Netflix, and we are thrilled to continue evolving and expanding our partnership by jointly developing and producing select original series for our respective platforms.”
When is Bannerman released on Netflix?
An official release date hasn’t been announced by AMC or Netflix. However, we do have information on how the series will be distributed domestically and internationally.
Bannerman will premiere on AMC in North America. 90 days after the series’ debut on the network, it’ll become available on Netflix. In Australia, New Zealand, and Spain, AMC and Netflix will release the episodes simultaneously. As for the rest of the world, Bannerman will exclusively stream on Netflix.
