Guy Ritchie’s smash-hit aristocratic crime series The Gentlemen is back, and the stakes have never been higher. Ahead of the highly anticipated September 3rd release, Netflix has just unleashed a brand-new, action-packed trailer for season 2, giving us a taste of the absolute chaos to come across eight dramatic new episodes.

With the new season just over a week away, the newly released footage confirms that Eddie Horniman (Theo James) and Susie Glass (Kaya Scodelario) are taking their illicit empire to the next level.

“400 years ago, this estate spread out as far as the eye could see,” Eddie states at the top of the trailer over sweeping shots of his sprawling grounds. “I want it all back.”

But expanding an empire is never easy, especially when you’re caught between rival crime lords. The trailer reveals that Bobby Glass (Ray Winstone) is well aware of Eddie and Susie’s ambitions, noting that he knows they are hoping he might support their efforts to “decriminalize marijuana.” Meanwhile, the ever-calculating Stanley Johnston (Giancarlo Esposito) is back to play the devil on Eddie’s shoulder. “You are destined to rule,” Johnston tells him. “Forge your own path. Move away from Bobby Glass.”

As we’ve previously teased, season 2 pushes the story past the dreary English countryside and into the sun-soaked vistas of Italy. The trailer is packed with glamorous shots of Lake Como-style speedboats, grand villas, and sharp suits. We get explosive brawls, a caged tiger, screaming matches (“This fucking snake!” Bobby roars at Eddie), and a whole lot of blood. Susie perhaps sums it up best when observing Eddie’s newfound ruthlessness: “He’s evolving into something volatile.”

And then there’s Vinnie Jones’s beloved groundskeeper, Geoff. While happily cocking a shotgun alongside new heavily armed allies, Geoff proudly declares, “I feel an erection coming on.”

Alongside James, Scodelario, Winstone, Esposito, and Jones, returning familiar faces for the sophomore run include Joely Richardson, Jasmine Blackborow, Michael Vu, Harry Goodwins, Ruby Sear, and Pearce Quigley.

As the trailer teases, this time ambition can’t be tamed, and the show is bringing in a massive roster of new talent to up the ante. Joining previously announced additions Hugh Bonneville and Michele Morrone are Benjamin Clementine, Benedetta Porcaroli, Sergio Castellitto, Amra Mallassi, and Tyler Conti. Keep your eyes peeled for some exciting cameos, too, with British professional boxer Chris Eubank Jr and TV host Maya Jama also joining the fray!

Season 3 is Officially a Go!

Netflix is clearly incredibly confident that season 2 is going to be a viewership-shattering hit. The streamer has already officially confirmed that season 3 of The Gentlemen is on the way.

Creator, writer, director, and executive producer Guy Ritchie said of the very early renewal: “The ambition of The Gentlemen has accelerated, the world has expanded and the consequences carry weight. A third season felt inevitable, and I’m looking forward to pushing the boundaries of it further.”

Here’s the quick rundown of what we know about the production of Season 3 (release date TBC):

  • Episodes: 8 x 60 mins
  • Creator/Director: Guy Ritchie
  • Writers: Guy Ritchie, Matthew Read
  • Executive Producers: Guy Ritchie, Ivan Atkinson, Matthew Read, Will Gould, Simon Crawford Collins, and Frith Tiplady (Moonage Pictures) alongside Jonathan Glickman and Marc Helwig (Miramax TV)
  • Production Companies: Moonage Pictures for Netflix and Miramax TV.

Netflix declined to comment on our request for comment about Megan Markle’s possible role in the series, although they’ve naturally moved up the official announcement of season 3, something that’s been very much in the works and a go since early summer, to today.

With season 3 officially locked in, fans can dive into the blood-soaked, aristocratic madness of season 2 on September 3rd without worrying about a cliffhanger cancellation.
