Picture: Fool Night – Sunrise/Shaft
Sunrise and Shaft’s collaboration on the anime adaptation of Kasumi Yasuda’s manga, Fool Night, is shaping up to be one of the most intriguing anime titles of the year. We now have official confirmation that Fool Night will be launched worldwide on Netflix on November 26, 2026. Also unveiled today is a brand-new English-dub trailer, alongside new images and a featurette featuring series director Atushi Yukawa and Shaft and Sunrise animation producers Ryusuke Suzuki and Yoshihiro Iwata.
Fool Night is an upcoming Japanese Netflix Original anime series and an adaptation of Kasumi Yasuda’s manga Fūru Naito, which we first saw at Annecy. The series is a collaboration between animation studios Sunrise and Shaft. Directing the series is Atushi Yukawa (Space Dandy).
Fool Night is one of several animated titles showcased at Anime NYC 2026, with brand new images, trailers, release dates, and more for some of the following:

When is Fool Night released on Netflix?
With the release of the official English dub teaser trailer, it has been confirmed that Fool Night will be released on Netflix globally on November 26, 2026.

A featurette for the anime has also been released, featuring Fool Night director Atsushi Yukawa and animation producers Yoshihiro Iwata and Ryusuke Suzuki of Sunrise and Shaft.
In the video, director Atsushi Yukawa had the following to say:
“Even at their weakest, people want to remain strong. Maybe no one can say who is right, or wrong that matter, but that will keep living is something I find intriguing. We felt that the crueler the scene is, the more beautiful it should be. There’s a sadness or poignancy that’s unique to this world. We wanted people to feel that sense of place swirling beneath the surface of the artwork.”
Yoshihiro Iwata, the animation producer of Sunrise, had heaps of praise for his fellow collaborators:
“It’s an incredibly colorful work, and that made it very challenging. At SUNRISE, we were confident we could capture the drama, but Shaft did an impressive job of capturing the distinct colours. We felt that is Sunrise and Shaft could develop a good chemistry the project would be two or even three times as powerful. Across the visuals, the music, and the direction we feel that we acheived a high level of artistry. I hope people will look forward to it.
Ryusuke Suzuki, the animation producer of Shaft, shared the following about the challenge of animating for a story set entirely at night:
“Stories set entirely at night are quite rare, so we challanged ourselves to bring that world to life. Since it’s total darkness by default, we focused on how to use light effectively, and built the color script around the character’s emotions. The content can get pretty weighty, but we still wanted people to sense the beauty of the imagery. We discussed that with the director as work progressed.”
Has the English dub cast been announced?
Despite an official English trailer, we still have no word on who has been cast in the English dub for Fool Night. Fox-eared fans may be able to recognize some of the voices off sound alone, but an official list has yet to be revealed.
For now, the only confirmed cast members we have for the Japanese Dub are Minako Kotobuki as Yomiko Hourai and Kouki Uchiyama as Toushirou Kamiya.
