Get ready to head back to the grid. Following up on our previous reporting, Netflix has officially announced the title and release date for its highly anticipated new Formula 1 documentary focusing on racing legend Michael Schumacher.
Schumacher ’94 – The Birth of a Legend will premiere globally on Netflix on October 2nd, 2026.
As we previously covered at the top of the year alongside Netflix Germany’s slate reveal for the year, Netflix has been brewing up a brand new sports documentary centered on the seven-time World Champion. Now, thanks to an update from the official Michael Schumacher website, we know exactly what chapter of his life the streaming service will be zooming in on.
Serving as a spiritual successor of sorts to Netflix’s hit 2021 documentary Schumacher (which returned after leaving for a second) and riding the continued massive wave of Formula 1: Drive to Survive (renewed for a new season for 2027), this new feature takes a deep dive into the 1994 season—arguably one of the most dramatic and pivotal years in Formula 1 history.
At just 25 years old, 1994 was the year Schumacher transformed from a talented underdog into a World Champion and a national hero, sparking the massive wave of “Schumi Mania” across Germany.
However, as F1 fans know, the 1994 season was marred by devastating tragedy and controversy. The documentary promises to be a “gripping and emotional journey back in time,” covering the incredible highs of his season-opening victory in Brazil and his title-clinching race in Australia, to the devastatingly fatal accidents of Ayrton Senna and Roland Ratzenberger at Imola. The film will also touch on the intense allegations of manipulation that threatened to cost Schumacher everything mid-season.
Described as part emotional drama, part gripping thriller, and part historical document, Schumacher ’94 will also offer a deeply intimate look at the man outside of the paddock. Viewers can expect to hear firsthand accounts of Schumacher as both an uncompromising fighter on the track and a sensitive, empathetic person behind closed doors.
Most importantly, the documentary will feature insights from his wife and closest confidante, Corinna Schumacher, who will offer a glimpse into the early days of their extraordinary and enduring love story.
Alongside Corinna, the documentary will feature a robust lineup of interviews with Schumacher’s closest companions and key figures from the F1 world, including:
- Flavio Briatore (Former Benetton Team Principal)
- Bernie Ecclestone (Former Chief Executive of the Formula One Group)
- David Coulthard (Former F1 Driver)
- Willi Weber (Schumacher’s former manager)
- Kai Ebel (German sports reporter)
- Heiko Waßer (German motorsport commentator)

We”ll no doubt be getting new first looks and a trailer in the coming weeks – we’ll keep this post updated once we learn more.
