After a six-week break to make room for the FIFA World Cup, MasterChef is finally back on Fox — and it’s picking up right where things get sticky.
The Top 16 home cooks return Wednesday for the “Bitter Sweet Mystery Box” episode, tackling their second Mystery Box of the season: chocolate confections inspired by their heritage. With a double elimination looming, the competition — and the ovens — have never been hotter.
In an exclusive preview clip (below), Julia Cili, representing Italy and competing for Team Europe, hits a nightmare scenario as she goes to unmold her cake.
“Let’s see how this is going to go,” Julia says, tipping the pan over the cutting board. Only half the cake comes loose — the rest stays stuck inside.
“This is every baker’s worst nightmare,” she says, while judges Gordon Ramsay, Tiffany Derry, and Joe Bastianich look on. “Half of my cake is underbaked and it’s not coming out of the tin. I am just devastated. The entire essence of Sicilian ingredients is in this cake and I genuinely don’t even know what to do at this point.”
Tune in tonight at 9 p.m. ET/PT (and check out Gold Derby’s recap) to find out if Julia can salvage her cake — or if her heritage-inspired dessert will crumble under pressure.
