As expected, Beyond the Gates — the first new broadcast network soap opera in decades — earned major love from Daytime Emmy voters in its awards debut. (See the complete list of nominations.)
With 15 noms, the brand-new CBS soap is only three behind The Young and the Restless, which has been around the awards beat for more than five decades now.
Beyond the Gates is represented twice in Best Lead Actress for Tamara Tunie and Karla Mosley as the mother-daughter duo of Anita Williams Dupree and Dani Dupree.
However, legendary star Clifton Davis, who plays patriarch Vernon Dupree, was shockingly snubbed in Best Lead Actor. Jon Lindstrom (Joey Armstrong) also didn’t make the cut, despite working within the soap opera genre for more than 35 years.
Other nominated performers include Trisha Mann-Grant as Leslie Thomas, Timon Kyle Durrett as Bill Hamilton, and Mike Manning as Bradley “Smitty” Smith in supporting; Ambyr Michelle as Eva Thomas and Arielle Prepetit as Naomi Hamilton Hawthorne in emerging; and Jasmine Burke as June Hughes in guest.

Below the line, Beyond the Gates has been recognized for writing, music, technical direction, lighting direction, hairstyling/makeup, and casting at the 53rd annual ceremony.
“Emmys for everybody!” showrunner, executive producer, and head writer Michele Val Jean recently told Gold Derby about her Emmy hopes. She created the CBS soap opera about an affluent Black family living in Fairmont Crest, an upscale gated community and country club in Maryland. “It’s the most talented, most dedicated, most hardworking company of people,” Val Jean added. “It comes out as pure excellence on the screen, and they all deserve their flowers.”
