EXCLUSIVE: Elle Fanning and Julianne Moore are set to star in Moonsong: A Life In Seven Verses, a new film from Rebecca Miller that tells the story of famous children’s book author Margaret Wise Brown. This marks Miller’s ninth film she will direct and she is also penning the script.
The film is based on the book Margaret Wise Brown: Awakened by the Moon by Leonard S. Marcus and tells the story of beloved children’s book author Margaret Wise Brown, one of the preeminent children’s authors with work including whose classic books include Goodnight Moon and The Runaway Bunny. Given the title “the laureate of the nursery,” Brown’s impact is still felt today with her books being read before bed and in classrooms around the world decades after they were released.
The project was brought to Miller and her producing partner Damon Cardasis, at Round Films, by Amanda Goodwin, Keri Selig and Sasha Alexander. Martin Scorsese will Executive Produce with production to begin Spring 2027. Miller and Scorsese grew a relationship during her time directing the five-part documentary Mr. Scorsese, which recently won the DGA award for best doc.
Miller won the DGA award for her recent five-part documentary Mr. Scorsese, and has been nominated for three Emmys, won an Independent Spirit Award, and the Grand Jury prize at Sundance. The documentary recently received 3 Emmy nominations, including one for her directing.
Moore will next be seen starring in Jessie Eisenberg’s The Debut for A24 and just completed Tom Ford’s Cry To Heaven. Fanning currently stars in and produces Margo’s Got Money Troubles, earning an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for her performance. She will next be seen in The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, followed by The Nightingale, which she stars in and produces alongside her sister, Dakota Fanning. She is currently in production on A24’s Discretion, opposite Nicole Kidman.
