‘The Five Star Weekend’ On Peacock Cast Guide: ‘Catch and Release’ Co-Stars Jennifer Garner and Timothy Olyphant Reunite in New Drama

Peacock has just the series for your coastal chic summer.

The Five Star Weekend—based on Elin Hilderbrand‘s 2023 novel of the same name—takes viewers to Nantucket, where food blogger Hollis Shaw (Jennifer Garner) enlists three friends she made at three different points of her life, and a surprise fifth addition, to join her for a top-notch girls weekend as she grieves the loss of her husband Matthew (Josh Hamilton).

Despite the promise of five-star treatment and some much-needed rest and relaxation, old feelings and secrets emerge, complicating Hollis’ pristine vision for the weekend.

Warning! Light spoilers ahead for The Five Star Weekend, which is streaming now on Peacock.

Nonetheless, the series boasts a five-star cast, headlined by Garner, Chloë Sevigny, Regina Hall, D’Arcy Carden, and Gemma Chan—and that’s only the ladies on the weekend’s guest list. Timothy Olyphant also plays Hollis’ former flame, Jack, in the new series, reuniting onscreen after co-starring in Catch and Release.

The Five Star Weekend showrunner and EP Bekah Brunstetter told DECIDER that for the actors playing Matthew and Jack, Garner wanted to “work with some people she had worked with before that she had a level of familiarity and comfort with.” While Hamilton and Garner both star in Apple TV’s The Last Thing He Told Me, Olyphant and Garner last worked together in the 2006 rom-com.

“She floated his name early on because they did Catch and Release together years ago, which has a hilariously similar plot,” . But he just read the material and from the beginning was really just invested in it. And really, you don’t always find this. How cool it is to find a guy who just wants to play the love interest and play like not a tertiary character, but like play a smaller part with these like five amazing women.”

According to Brunstetter, Olyphant was mot only “just so generous with his time and just really lovely,” but also “so swoony,” truly, as she said “giv[ing] the people what they want.”

“He steps on screen and you’re just like, ‘oh Tim,’ and it just gives you butterflies and reminds you of all the boys you’ve ever had crushes on,” she said. “He just serves that and is also a really lovely guy to have around so we felt really lucky to get him.”

  1. Jennifer Garner in 'The Five Star Weekend'

Jennifer Garner stars as Hollis Shaw, a caterer-turned-influencer whose account, Hungry with Hollis, has blown up online. After being hit with the tragic news that her husband Matthew (Josh Hamilton, see below) has died in an accident, she eventually calls on three of her friends—and a follower of hers—to join her in a girls weekend at her home in Nantucket.

Garner certainly needs no introduction. The actress, 54, is known for her roles in series like Alias and The Last Thing He Told Me, and films such as 13 Going on 30, Juno, and The Adam Project.

    Photo: Greg Gayne/PEACOCK

Tatum (Chloë Sevigny) is Hollis’ best friend from childhood. The two grew up together on Nantucket and call each other sisters, though they haven’t kept each other as up to date on the ins and outs of their lives in recent years. While Tatum is focused on supporting Hollis, she also has some potential bad news on her mind.

Sevigny, 51, most recently starred in Luca Guadagnino‘s After the Hunt. She is also known for her roles in projects like Boys Don’t Cry, Big Love, American Horror Story, and Monster: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story.

  3. Regina Hall in 'The Five Star Weekend'

Dru-Ann “Dru” Jones (played by Regina Hall) is a sports agent and Hollis’ best friend from college, who senses a sort of competition between her and Tatum for who is Hollis’ closest friend. She also has a lot on her mind, facing the possibility of being canceled after insisting that her client should suck it up and play after she says she’s burnt out.

Hall recently made her return to the Scary Movie film franchise, reprising her role of Brenda in the sixth installment. Other notable film credits of hers include The Honeymooners (2005), Girls Trip (2017), The Hate U Give (2018), and One Battle After Another (2025).

  4. D'Arcy Carden in 'The Five Star Weekend'

D’Arcy Carden plays Brooke, a friend of Hollis’ through their children. While Brooke struggles with fitting in and being in on the joke, a weekend in Nantucket might be just what she needs to navigate the turmoil she’s experiencing at home with her husband Charlie (Rob Huebel), and to connect with herself.

Carden’s work spans TV and film. The 46-year-old actress recently starred in the comedy series Sunny Nights alongside Will Forte, and in the last year alone, has appeared on The Handmaid’s Tale, Adults, Nobody Wants This, and Loot.

Gigi (Gemma Chan) enters Hollis’ life via social media, reaching out to her after Matthew’s passing to connect with the food influencer. However, Hollis’ friends are skeptical that Gigi may not be who she says she is… and with good reason.

The 43-year-old actress and model has worked on films such as Transformers: The Last Knight (2017), Crazy Rich Asians (2018), Captain Marvel (2019), Let Them All Talk (2020), and Don’t Worry Darling (2022 ) .

Caroline “Goose” Shaw (Harlow Jane) is Hollis and Matthew’s college-aged daughter. While navigating the loss of her father, Caroline struggles with her responsibilities as a student, and also as a new friend to Aubrey (West Duchovny, see below).

The 23-year-old daughter of Patricia Arquette and Thomas Jane has also appeared in Texas Rising, I Love Us, She Came to Me, and High Desert.

  7. Timothy Olyphant in 'The Five Star Weekend'
    Photo: Seacia Pavao/PEACOCK

Timothy Olyphant plays Jack, Hollis’ former flame who still lives in Nantucket. Though respectful of the fact that Hollis just lost her husband, the sexual tension is still palpable between the two of them—but can they rekindle their spark?

Among Olyphant’s most notable TV credits across his decades-long career are Deadwood, Justified, Santa Clarita Diet, Daisy Jones and the Six, Stick, and Alien: Earth.

  8. David Denman in 'The Five Star Weekend'
    Photo: Greg Gayne/PEACOCK

Kyle (David Denman) is Tatum’s devoted husband and high school sweetheart, who keeps her grounded as she wades through some uncharted territory. He is always there to pick her up when she is down.

Denman has appeared on a slew of TV shows, including Traffic Light, The Office, Parenthood, Outcast, Mare of Easttown, Eric, Bosch: Legacy, and Peacemaker.

  9. Harlow Jane and West Duchovny in 'The Five Star Weekend'
    Photo: Greg Gayne/PEACOCK

West Duchovny plays Aubrey, Tatum and Kyle’s daughter who is working at the diner in order to make ends meet for her and her child that she shares with her boyfriend, Dylan (Henry Eikenberry).

The 27-year-old Duchovny, who is the daughter of fellow actors David Duchovny and Téa Leoni, has earned credits on shows including The X-Files, The Magicians, Saint X, and Painkiller.

Want to learn more? Follow West Duchovny’s Instagram at @westduchovny.

  10. Josh Hamilton in 'The Five Star Weekend'
    Photo: Adam Rose/PEACOCK

Matthew Shaw (Josh Hamilton) is Hollis’ husband, who dies in a car accident at the start of The Five Star Weekend. While Hollis grieving her husband may make it seem like their relationship was all love, complications emerge as more details come to light surrounding the state of their marriage just ahead of his passing.

Hamilton most recently starred with Garner in Apple TV‘s The Last Thing He Told Me, and also appeared in two episodes of Netflix‘s Something Very Bad is Going to Happen. Among the other TV shows that he has worked on are Ray Donovan, 13 Reasons Why, and The Walking Dead.

  11. Judy Greer in 'The Five Star Weekend'
    Photo: Peacock

Electra (Judy Greer) is a mother of children at the school where Hollis and Brooke’s children also attend, who serves as a source of contention between rhe two of them.

We love a Jennifer Garner and Judy Greer collab! From 13 Going on 30, to The Last Thing He Told Me, and now to The Five Star Weekend, the two have worked together on such iconic projects. Greer’s recent work also includes Archer, Stick, and The Long Walk.
