The 2026 FIFA World Cup continues to rewrite the record books on the field and across streaming platforms.
NBCUniversal announced that Telemundo and Peacock delivered the largest total audience ever for a U.S. Men’s National Team FIFA World Cup match in Spanish-language history during the USA’s June 25 group stage matchup against Turkey. The game averaged 5.1 million total viewers across Telemundo, Peacock, Universo, NBC Sports Digital, and FAST channels, surpassing the previous record for a U.S. World Cup match in Spanish.
According to NBCUniversal, the USA-Turkey match also generated the largest digital audience ever for a U.S. Men’s National Team FIFA World Cup match in Spanish. Peacock once again played a major role, continuing what has been a record-breaking tournament for the streaming service.
As the Spanish-language home of the World Cup, the accomplishment follows another historic milestone set earlier in the tournament when Mexico’s group-stage match became the most-watched soccer match ever on Spanish-language media. Together, those performances have helped make Peacock one of the biggest success stories of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. But the significance extends well beyond one streaming platform.
Peacock’s growth during the tournament mirrors similar momentum on the English-language side, where streaming has become an increasingly important part of FOX’s World Cup strategy. Instead of serving as a secondary viewing option, streaming is proving to be a primary destination for millions of fans, particularly younger viewers and bilingual households looking for greater flexibility.
With the knockout rounds now underway and the United States still alive in the tournament, NBCUniversal could see even larger audiences in the coming days. Historically, World Cup viewership climbs as the tournament advances, and every round raises the stakes for fans.
On Wednesday, July 1, Peacock and Telemundo will have another opportunity to drive record ratings when the USMNT opens the knockout stage against Bosnia and Herzegovina in the FIFA World Cup Round of 32. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m. ET at the San Francisco Bay Area Stadium in Santa Clara, California. The match will also air in English on FOX and stream on FOX One. A win would send Team USA to the Round of 16, where the Americans would continue their quest for the country’s deepest World Cup run in more than two decades.
