Universal’s “Minions & Monsters” debuted at the No. 1 spot at the China box office during the July 3–5 weekend, grossing RMB111.5 million ($16.4 million), according to data from Artisan Gateway.

Taopiaopiao’s sci-fi comedy “Keep Real” opened in second place, securing $10.5 million over the weekend frame. Including early previews, the film has reached a cumulative total of $11 million since its release. Written and directed by Xing Wenxiong, the satirical story stars Bai Jingting as Superman Wang Changhai, a superhero who is dispatched back to his hometown to form a combat squad. Facing a town where long-term peace has bred complex interpersonal networks and deep-rooted social courtesies, the naive hero must navigate high-stakes local etiquette and learn to develop his emotional intelligence with the help of a local branch director played by Wei Xiang.

Bona Film Group’s historical war epic “Crossing” moved to third place in its second weekend of release, adding $6.4 million. The large-scale military drama, which commemorates the 90th anniversary of the Long March under the direction of Xu Zhanxiong, has now accumulated a lifetime total of $27.6 million.

A24’s “Backrooms” was in fourth place with $4.7 million. The film has hit a cumulative total of $14.5 million.

Rounding out the top five, Disney and Pixar’s “Toy Story 5” brought in $3.1 million in its third weekend. The film has brought its cumulative box office haul in China to $36.9 million.

Mainland China’s overall weekend grosses reached $47.8 million, while the 2026 year-to-date revenue stands at $2.61 billion, down 40.3% from the same period in 2025.
