Amazon Prime members heading into the Fourth of July weekend have one more reason to smile at the pump. From Thursday, July 2, through Sunday, July 5, Prime members can save 50 cents per gallon on one fuel purchase at more than 7,500 participating BP, Amoco, ampm, and Thorntons gas stations across the U.S. The limited-time offer is five times larger than Amazon’s usual 10-cent-per-gallon Prime fuel discount.
The promotion arrives as AAA expects 72.2 million Americans to travel at least 50 miles over the Independence Day holiday, including 61.4 million who will travel by car in the highest Fourth of July travel forecast on record. Of those traveling this weekend, AAA says 5.85 million are expected to fly, and another 4.93 million are projected to travel by bus, train, or cruise. AAA also notes that road travel remains the dominant choice even as gas prices stay elevated compared with recent years.
For anyone planning a road trip, Amazon’s biggest fuel discount of the summer is especially timely. The gas savings are available to Prime, Prime Access, and Prime for Young Adults members. Along with fuel discounts, Prime also includes fast shipping, Prime Video, exclusive shopping deals, and other member benefits. Prime Access members also get an extra grocery boost this summer with a $5 monthly credit from July through September on eligible orders of $25 or more.
If you’ve been thinking about signing up for Prime, this may be one of the best weekends to do it. With millions of Americans hitting the road for fireworks, cookouts, and long weekend getaways, between the limited-time gas discount, holiday shopping deals, and the rest of the membership perks, there’s a good chance you’ll save more than the cost of membership before the weekend is over.
