Is ‘Worst Neighbor Ever’ Worth Watching? Netflix’s Shocking New True-Crime Docuseries Reviewed

“The Worst Ever” universe has expanded a little bit more. Or at the very least, more iterations just keep releasing. If you are familiar with the ITV America/Jason Blum-produced nightmare anthology docuseries Worst Roommate Ever and Worst Ex Ever, which explored the most horrific living situations involving homicidal and downright evil individuals who terrorize their roommates or lovers, the most recent addition to the “collection” goes to flipping the coin on “love thy neighbor.” The latest installment, Worst Neighbor Ever, chronicles different communities across America—most of them being of the suburban variety—and how a wretched person upended not only the life of a family but a whole neighborhood.

If you’re already a true-crime enthusiast and like watching the Worst Ever format with its animated reenactments and in-depth talking head interviews, which are all contained within an hour, this is more or less the same, but the stories are told in a more localized setting.

Much like the other installments, the series consists of four episodes, all tackling different stories across America. The initial episode centers on Frances Zaayer, a woman who was once a houseguest of Shawna and David Scott. She later moved into their home, where she caused them discomfort due to her racism and attention-seeking habits. Ultimately, she engaged in a long-standing feud that led to her conviction as a murderer. The second episode follows a house bombing in an Indianapolis suburb that affected a neighborhood and the plot that started it. Third, an Oakland couple, Miles and Melina, face an erratic, evicted neighbor and the county’s negligence that ripped their family apart. And lastly, the final episode explores the disappearance of Charles Wilding Jr. and his connections to a shady Caroline Joanne Herrling, who claimed to oversee his estate.

There’s not much to say about Worst Neighbor Ever, as it follows the same straightforward, breezy format as any of its prior installments. Despite the overall tonal heaviness, the four episodes do make for an interesting binge.  Although it is not as thoroughly detailed as it could be, it still retains the series’ distinctive features, such as excellent editing of archival footage intercut with well-animated reenactments and a breezy pacing that keeps you engaged during the episode’s unfolding story.  These tension-filled criminal accounts will leave you either infuriated or completely mystified at the audacity of these criminals. The second episode, which is centered around the suburb and the bomb, may be the most noteworthy due to the unique nature of the crime and the broader narrative that encompassed the community rather than a single family.

Only two of the season’s episodes, the first and the third, share a throughline about systemic incompetence in the American justice system, where local authorities let one-sided neighbor-on-neighbor harassment escalate until someone is murdered. It doesn’t stray far from The Perfect Neighbor, which was told from a unique perspective that distinguished it. Nevertheless, in contrast to the feature, which was acquired by Sundance in 2025 and not produced by Netflix, Worst Neighbor Ever simply follows the series’ formula, deploying its tale through a recognizable format that leaves much to be desired.

I get it: if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it, especially since people are going to flock to the show no matter what. But these criminal, life-altering stories that consumed the lives of loved ones and affected families deserve more effort than the same Worst Ever storytelling that’s persisted since 2022. At some point, it will run its course, and no amount of spinoffs can resolve a format running thin. Yet, I can admit to a stalemate because the people who are going to watch will watch. If only these somber accounts were told in a better-named series.
