Back in May, we broke the news that Netflix had officially scooped up the worldwide rights to Bad Bridgets, an upcoming 19th-century period drama. At the time, we revealed that Emilia Jones and Alison Oliver were set to lead the feature. Now, Netflix has officially pulled back the curtain on the project, confirming our earlier report and dropping a massive new ensemble cast list.
Here is everything we know about the updated cast, crew, and the latest filming schedule for Bad Bridgets.
What is the plot of Bad Bridgets?
Just as a refresher, Bad Bridgets is inspired by the fascinating historical and literary works of Bad Bridget by Elaine Farrell and Leanne McCormick, with the script developed with support from Queen’s University Belfast.
Netflix has also provided a brand new official logline for the upcoming feature:
“When a mysterious letter offering escape leads a young Irish woman to 19th-century New York, she is pulled into the unruly world of the Bridgets, where mayhem follows in her wake.”
Who is in the cast of Bad Bridgets?
As we previously covered, Emilia Jones (CODA, Locke & Key) and Alison Oliver (Saltburn, Conversations with Friends) are set to lead the film. But they are getting some serious A-list company.
Netflix has just announced that the following huge names have boarded the project:
- Colin Farrell (Banshees of Inisherin, In Bruges)
- Steve Coogan (Philomena, Legends)
- Charlie Heaton (Stranger Things, Industry)
- Domhnall Gleeson (Ex Machina, Echo Valley)
- Himesh Patel (Yesterday, The Odyssey)
- Niamh Algar (The Iris Affair, Mary & George)
- Simone Kirby (Kneecap, His Dark Materials)
Who else is behind the project?
Writer, director, and producer Rich Peppiatt, who recently took home a BAFTA for his critically acclaimed Irish comedy Kneecap, is at the helm.
The film boasts an incredibly strong lineup of producers. Margot Robbie’s LuckyChap (Barbie, Saltburn) and Coup d’Etat are producing, alongside Executive Producer Cáit Collins. The project is also being produced with backing from Northern Ireland Screen.
Behind the camera, Peppiatt has assembled an absolute powerhouse of an award-winning crew to bring 19th-century New York and Ireland to life:
- Cinematographer: Ryan Kernaghan (Kneecap, and recent BAFTA winner for Trespasses)
- Production Designer: James Price (Academy Award and BAFTA winner for Poor Things)
- Costume Designer: Kate Hawley (Academy Award and BAFTA winner for Netflix’s Frankenstein)
What is the production status of Bad Bridgets?
Cameras are getting ready to roll! In our initial report, we noted a summer shoot, and Netflix has now confirmed that Bad Bridgets will officially begin production on location in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland in mid-July 2026.
Given the summer 2026 production schedule, we’d expect Bad Bridgets to land on Netflix sometime in mid-to-late 2027.
