When it comes to The Bear and the Emmys, the conversation can get a little complicated. Aside from the ongoing debate about whether the FX series is actually a comedy or the rare 30-minute drama, there’s the fact that because of a yearly June release, Television Academy members tend to catch new episodes while voting on the previous batch. The timing has both paid off and hurt The Bear, which won Best Comedy Series in 2023 and then blanked on 13 nominations last year; but could great reviews for the recently released Season 5 be boon for Season 4’s Emmy odds?
Just three days after its debut, The Bear Season 5 has seemingly pushed the show’s chance of a nomination for Best Comedy Series in the right direction. At the time of publication, its odds are up 3% with Gold Derby experts, placing it comfortably within nomination range. (Both Best Series categories automatically feature eight nominees.)

Interestingly, the same bump is not present in the lead performer categories. Two-time winner for Best Comedy Actor Jeremy Allen White is currently down 3%. Meanwhile, previous Comedy Supporting Actress winner Ayo Edebiri (who now runs in lead) has seen her odds fall by 6%.

The big, fat caveat on all of this odds movement is that Phase 1 of Emmy voting ended before the release of Season 5, so if there is to be any effect at all on The Bear‘s awards chances in 2026, it will have to be nominated on the merits of its eligible episodes alone.
But if the current odds bear out (no pun intended), that means the FX series and its leads are safely within nomination range, so they could see the Michelin-worthy reviews for their goodbye season paying out one full year ahead of time.
