The Love Hypothesis trailer is here and science has never been so sexy!
In one of the biggest moments to come out of Prime Video‘s first-ever Obsessed Fest, Lili Reinhart and Tom Bateman appeared on stage together to debut the first trailer for their campus-based rom-com, an adaptation of the bestselling novel by Ali Hazelwood.
The Love Hypothesis follows Olive (Reinhart), who is pursuing a Ph.D, and a life of academia, when she realizes her best friend Ahn (Rachel Marsh) has a massive crush on her own crush, Jeremy (Nicholas Duvernay). To prove she’s over her own crush on Jeremy, Olive kisses professor Adam Carlsen (Bateman) and begins a fake relationship with Carlsen with rules, boundaries, and an agreement that devolves into chaos as their chemistry takes off and creates real feelings.
The one-minute teaser released by Prime Video is set in the tone of a retro scientific instruction video, set to the background sound of film rolling and discussions of chemicals mixing to create a reaction. It all comes to a head as Reinhart’s character kisses Adam to throw Ahn off the scent, quickly pulling back and apologizing to the campus’s “Dr. Evil.”
The ruse persists, however, as Olive attempts to reassure her friend that her relationship with the hated professor is completely real. “I’m seeing someone,” Olive tells Ahn in the teaser trailer for the film. “You mean like a therapist?” Ahn responds, confused, as Olive proclaims, “No, like a human man.”

Later in the trailer, things heat up as Adam has a moment of his own where he leans in to kiss Olive, telling her that he’s doing it as her friends are watching from afar. Yeah, that’s right, Prime Video gave two kisses in a one-minute teaser trailer… you’re welcome!
The teaser also touches on the fan-favorite “bridal lift” scene from the book, which the duo teased back in 2025 when Reinhart took part in the “All Night” trend on TikTok, showing Bateman pick her up with one arm. The video has amassed 11.9 million likes and has only ramped up the excitement for the project.
The Prime Video film is written by Sarah Rothschild and directed by Set It Up director Claire Scanlon. The movie also stars Jaboukie Young-White and Arty Froushan.
The Love Hypothesis releases on Prime Video on September 23.
