If the 2027 Oscar season still feels like forever away, the Hollywood Creative Alliance has you covered.
With seven nominations, Project Hail Mary leads the 2026 Astra Midseason Movie Awards, which honor the best films released in the first half of the calendar year.
Announced on Friday, the group also recognized 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple with six nominations; Backrooms, Obsession, and The Invite with five; Disclosure Day, The Drama, and Send Help with four; and Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie and Toy Story 5 with two.
Project Hail Mary‘s seven nods are for every category in which it was eligible: Best Picture, Best Actor for Ryan Gosling, Best Supporting Actress for Sandra Hüller, Best Supporting Actor for James Ortiz, Best Screenplay, Best Director for Phil Lord and Chris Miller, and Best Stunts.
Notably, Toy Story 5 is the only animated film to make the group’s Best Picture lineup. The box-office juggernaut is also up for Best Screenplay.

The Astra Midseason Movie Awards spotlight the standout movies from January to June while also offering a glimpse of the most anticipated films from the second half of the year. Winners will be announced June 30 across Astra Awards social media channels starting at 9 a.m. PT.
“This year’s nominees reflect the incredible diversity and creativity that audiences have experienced in theaters during the first half of 2026,” said Astras EVP Matt Weiss. “From groundbreaking blockbusters and acclaimed independent films to emerging talent and visionary filmmakers, these nominations showcase a wide assortment of films released so far as we head into the second half of the year.”
