Cowboys Cheerleader Reece Weaver Explains Decision to Retire

Dallas Cowboys cheerleader Reece Weaver explained why she decided to hang up her iconic boots after becoming a fan favorite on Netflix’s America’s Sweethearts.

“Going into season 3, my third year on the team, I just had so much gratitude,” Weaver, 24, exclusively told Us Weekly. “My cup was filled to the brim even going into this year. I had that in the back of my mind. I was excited and looking forward to year three and what it brought. But my cup was getting really, really full. I went into my last game not thinking and knowing it was my last, but I kind of treated it as it was my last, so I could really just soak it all in. I think I really needed that sense of closure for my mental state.”

Weaver said she definitively made up her mind at the beginning of March 2025, shortly before she had to break the news to DCC director Kelli Finglass and DCC choreographer Judy Trammell.

“I don’t remember the last time I was that nervous to go into a conversation,” Weaver recalled. “I wasn’t nervous about really telling them, it was more me actually saying it out loud.”

Former Dallas Cowboys cheerleader and associate choreographer Shelly Bramhall did not mince words after her daughter, Dayton, was cut from the iconic NFL squad for a third time.  Shelly, a member of the DCC class of 1989, struggled to understand how her longtime friend, DCC director Kelli Finglass, could overlook Dayton again, this time cutting […]

She added, “Thankfully they were extremely supportive and excited for this next chapter that I’m about to endure. I think that was really reassuring.”

Weaver and her husband, Will Allman, got married in April 2024, shortly after her first season on the team and just two months before the premiere of season 1 of America’s Sweethearts, which turned Weaver into a celebrity nearly overnight.

While her husband didn’t pull any strings when it came to her retirement decision, Weaver said she was excited to start a new era of their relationship.

“We haven’t really experienced what newlywed living is like,” Weaver said. “I would be lying if I said we didn’t talk about the future and stuff like that. But Will has been so supportive and sacrificed so much for me to live out my dreams. No matter what decision I made, he was going to support it either way.”

Dallas Cowboys cheerleader Jenna Waller got candid about why she’s now thankful that she was cut from the squad in 2024.  “I’ve been so grateful that I didn’t make the team last year because of where I was with my health and with my body,” Waller, 27, said during season 3 of Netflix’s America’s Sweethearts: […]

Allman quit his job at a power washing company as Weaver’s popularity skyrocketed, helping his wife manage all of the opportunities, brand deals and chaos that came with it.

Weaver acknowledged it’s been an “interesting” transition as she and Allman figure out what the future of their relationship looks like. The couple — who met at the University of Alabama — recently relocated from Texas to Alabama, Allman’s home state.

“We can’t go back and change what has come up and what our new reality looks like. I think that’s special,” she said. “In the beginning I was like, ‘What are we doing? What is going on? How do we navigate all of this?’ But I think it has ultimately made our marriage stronger and our relationship stronger. I’m just excited to carry that into the next season of our lives.”

Season 3 of America’s Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders is available now on Netflix.
