The series mainly follows Boyd Stevens (Harold Perrineau), the appointed sheriff of the town, and new arrivals to the town the Matthews family: Tabitha (Catalina Sandino Moreno), Jim (Eion Bailey), Julie (Hannah Cheramy), and Ethan (Simon Webster) Matthews. The Man in Yellow has recently taken on a new form as a pastor’s daughter, Sophia (Julia Doyle). However, The Man in Yellow’s true form is played by Douglas E. Hughes. Hughes is a Canadian actor, voice actor, and playwright. According to his official website, Hughes has been in the industry for over 45 years, and spent 13 years as an ensemble member of the Shaw Festival. He has written numerous plays, screenplays, and novels. Currently, he and his writing partner Marcia Kash are working on their seventh play Succour, a psychological thriller.

Aside from From, which still has a few episodes left to air, Hughes has been in numerous other projects. With guest roles in The Umbrella Academy, Suits, and Hannibal. As well as a recurring role in the medical drama Good Sam. While most of his experience is through stage work, it clear Hughes has a passion for his work in the industry. The other five plays he has written with his writing partner, include Who’s Under Where?, A Party to Murder, Too Many Cooks, Jack of Diamonds. One of which has been converted to a screenplay.
